Wild Birds Photo of Southeast Asia and Australia

Bird photography is a growing pass time for the many urban professionals like me in Singapore and the other parts of Southeast Asia. Many rare bird sightings or photos were recorded by these weekend birders. This gallery serves to catalogue the birds I have photographed as a resource to others who are keen in birds and bird photography. All the birds were photographed in their natural habitats. Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I do...... Cheers, Ivor

Birds of Australia

The fauna of Australia lies in the east of the Wallace Line where many species are endemic to the region. Of the 850+ species found in Australia, 350 species are endemic, nearly 150 species more than the Philippines. Yes, this makes birding in Australia exciting, especially for twitchers. ...

Birds of Singapore

Birds of Singapore has been studied and documented since Sir Stamford Raffles stepped onto its shore. Perhaps there were more species of bird then but birding in Singapore today is still very challenging with half of the 350 officially recorded species are either uncommon, rare or vagrant.

Birds of Malaysia

When the new birders of Singapore have become familiar with the local birds, across the causeway north of the Island is usually their next venue of birding adventure. Some of the species that have become extinct in Singapore can be found here in abundance.

Birds of Thailand

Besides food, Thailand has another major attraction. It is the best birding ground in Southeast Asia. One will be spoilt for choice in both the food and bird species. The national parks here are well managed and easily accessible. It is my favorite country to bird watching.

Over 180 species of bird found in the Philippines are endemic. If you wish to tick the highest number of lifers on a single birding trip, a visit to the Philippines is a sureway of realising it.

Birds of the place which I call home now
09/04/08, Thursday

I have lived in Brisbane for 1.5 years now. I started picking up my camera and bino to bird watch seriously again in the past 6 weeks. Thanks to some of the members of Birds Queensland which I recently joined. Being new to the Australian fauna and unfamiliar with the birding grounds, I was held back by my own lack of adventure spirits, and laziness too. They brought me out of my cocoon and showed me where to go birding in and around Brisbane. Thanks to Tom Oliver for giving me a warm welcome to join the photo-group of BQ. With all these info and new birding pals, I started lugging my 10 kgs of gears again. As a result, over a few weekends, I managed to photograph 40+ species, enough to add a new gallery of birds in the place I call home now. Hope you will enjoy viewing them.

Cheers .... Ivor

P.S. come back to check this site again from time to time. It is Spring now, the residence birds are more active plus the start of migration season, I know I will be adding more photos to the gallery soon ;-)
